ABOUT

Incipit. January 2024.

Evil Will Bless is a Black Metal project intended to explore the intersection between transcendental experience and transcendental magic.

What do we mean by that?

There are experiences one has of the world where one begins by passively observing something in nature and through that observation one becomes an active participant -- whether physically, psychically, or aesthetically -- with the thing observed. And there are magical workings where one actively creates a scenario or formulation in which an experience is to occur and through becoming part of the experience one's ego is drained and one becomes more a passive participant in the current of the working -- like a dead leaf floating on a river. Evil Will Bless is intended to be an ecstatic music through which these experiences and currents may flow and in which the nature of the active versus the passive and the a priori versus the a posteriori becomes blurred and ultimately subsumed by something much greater and yet much lesser, much more expansive and yet more introspective, and much more resonant and yet more silent than anything we know.

My name is Srogi Mroczek and though I do not know whether I am thanking you in advance for any time you may have spent listening to this music, I am nonetheless expressing my thanks as a form of intent and will.

April 2024

Demo. 21 min 52 sec.

“In creating this suite of songs, we thought about it as though we were making a short film. There are opening and closing tracks akin to the opening and closing credits of a movie. And between them there is a rather impressionistic story about a man whose failure to live up to his own lies leads him to his doom,” said bandleader Srogi Mroczek. — Blessed Altar

Recorded, mixed, and mastered in February and March of 2024. The intention was to make something like a short film. It would have opening and closing credits. And between them would be told an impressionistic version of the story of Edward Kelley's last days. Kelley was the 16th Century alchemist and charlatan who had acted as John Dee's seer during a protracted series of attempts to contact angels. In his latter days, he was imprisoned as a fraud by Emperor Rudolf II and likely died after a failed attempt to escape Hněvín Castle.
